Quick Overview

Ayurveda recommends frequent and generous oiling of hair to nourish it, maintain its health, promote hair growth and cool down excess Pitta in the body. This is especially important if you have high premature greying and would like to colour your hair.

The Krya range of natural hair colours is desigend to provide a safe and toxin free alternative to synthetic hair colours and dyes. The Krya range of colour support hair products like the Krya creamy colour strengthening hair mask and the Krya Vibrant hair oil are designed to support the healthy growth and nourishment of coloured hair.

With the lack of availability of safe, well researched natural hair colours, we anticipate a lot of transition from chemical hair colours into the Krya range of natural hair colours. we therefore anticipate that the hair will be damaged, rough, and porous with heavy cuticular damage. From an Ayurvedic perspective, hair colours increase both pitta in the scalp and also dry out the natural oils in the hair increasing vata dosha. So the products we formulate are aimed at bringing excess pitta and excess vata back to balance. Interestingly, the Krya range of natural hair colours are pitta reducing as is advised by Ayurveda for any hair application.

In this case, looking after the hair with high quality oils and transitioning to a gentle natural hairwash becomes critical to heal your hair's health.

The Krya Vibrant hair colour hair oil: designed to work with coloured hair to restrore its texture, elasticity and health

Ayurveda advises us to use specific herbs in oils in applications that are designed to calm down excess pitta and vata. Therefore we use strongly Pitta reducing and hair nourishing herbs like Indian Gooseberry, and Yellow Eclipta in our formulation. To reduce the dryness and itchiness in the scalp brought on by the dry heat caused by synthetic colouring, we use herbs like Alkanet and Indian Liquorice. To work on the dryness in the scalp and gently work with the scalp to restore the natural oils, we use butters like kokum butter in the formulation.  A complete list of herbs with their provenance is given below.

This is a 100 ml pack. All of Krya's products are vegan & cruelty-free and do NOT contain any synthetic or animal origin ingredients

Why you should oil your hair regularly:

Krya advocates frequent oil massages for your hair as an important part of a healthy hair regimen. This follows classical Ayurvedic tradition which advocates the abhyanga as a way to regain good health. Generous and frequent oil application on your hair comes with many wonderful benefits. Besides improving the texture and health of your hair, frequent oiling keeps your scalp’s sebum levels in balance, improves circulation in the scalp, deep cleans your scalp and lifts dead cells and dirt, and stimulates the roots.

For naturally coloured hair: Hair and scalp must be oiled generously before every wash. In addition, scalp oiling twice a week helps stimulate natuarl and healthy hair growth.

How the Krya Vibrant Hair Colour Hair Oil is made:

The Krya Vibrant Hair Colour Hair Oil is made using a classical 3-part Ayurvedic method combining Taila (oil), Kashayam (Aqueous Extract) and Kalpa (paste) .This is a method unique to Indian traditional medicine, where the nutrients inside herbs are extracted in both water and oil - this ensures that every part of the herb is extracted into the oil, giving you an oil which is both powerful and "sookshma" (capable of penetrating even the minute cells). This process alone takes us between 6 - 8 hours of constant manual stirring to ensure the oil maintains a perfect consistency and the herbs do not get burned.

After processing the base oil and base herbs, we further add raw, cold pressed, organic oils and let the herbs steep for more time to ensure their nutrient properties are fully transferred to the oil. This cold infusion process takes us a further 7 days - so every batch of oil takes us 8 days to manufacture. At the end of the hot processing and the cold infusion process, the texture of the oil changes and the oil is extremely different from its basic nature - so even though heavy oils like sesame and coconut are used, the end oil is much lighter, less sticky and penetrates hair and scalp much faster than the base oil.

What goes into the Krya Vibrant Hair Colour Hair Oil:

Herb Infused Oil: Organic Indian Gooseberry, Organic Yellow Eclipta, Organic Curry Leaf, Organic Bottle gourd, Indian Madder, Organic Henna, Organic Indigo, Organic Fenugreek, Indian Liquorice, Alkanet (Ratanjot), Hibiscus flower, Cold pressed organic oil (Coconut oil, Sesame Oil, Kokum butter, Apricot Oil, Tamanu oil)

Everyday Oiling:

Everyday hair oiling is extremely beneficial to the hair and the body. This not only improves hair quality and stimulates good hair growth, but also soothes the brain and helps your mind relax and promotes good quality sleep.

Massage a few drops of the Krya Vibrant hair oil every evening into your scalp. This is best done atleast 1 hour before dinner, or 2 hours after dinner.

Watch outs: Oil is kapha promoting and cooling for your system. If you are prone to frequent colds, sinusitis or headaches, oil your hair in the morning and reduce oiling frequency to 2 – 3 times a week and gradually increase as your system gets used to the oil.

Oiling twice / thrice a week:

If you are unable to tolerate everyday oiling, oiling twice or thrice a week will be extremely beneficial for you. Warm the oil in the method given above and massage a teaspoon of the oil gently onto your scalp two to three times a week. Concentrate on problem areas of your scalp where it tends to feel dry or itchy or where hair growth is slow or scanty.

Use your fingertips and not your nails to massage your scalp. Cutting your fingernails before a scalp massage ensures that your scalp does not get cut / scratched by your finger nails.

If you are able to tolerate it, a massage at night is much more beneficial as it promotes good sleep and allows the oil to work on your scalp at peak regenerative time. Please ensure you protect your pillow case if you follow this method, so that excess oil does not stain onto your pillow or bedding. If applying at night, only apply warm oil to ensure there is no mucous build-up.

Hair washing with everyday / twice a week oiling:

The whole point behind frequent oiling is to give your hair and scalp frequent doses of natural herbs and oils in order to support the hair system which may have been weakened. Most of us are now unused to frequent oiling and may find leaving oil on our hair uncomfortable. If you feel this way, reduce the amount of oil per application to a level you are comfortable with. Even 3 - 4 drops of oil per application is beneficial especially if followed up with a gentle scalp massage.

If you are desperate to wash your hair after oiling, rinse with plain water and NO product. While rinsing your hair, work your scalp well to ensure that the follicles are stimulated and dead cells and dirt is dislodged well. You may rinse with plain water every single day if you like.

If you travel frequently, sweat profusely or are exposed to a lot of dust, please rinse your hair with plain water every day. If you feel that your scalp is accumulating dirt, please wash it with one of the Krya hairwash products. A dirty scalp tends to catch fungus, accumulate bacteria and dead cells and is not healthy, so ensure that you keep your scalp clean.

Oil application before washing your hair with a product:

Hair should be washed only once / twice a week with any product (including a natural product like ours). Over washing the hair breaks down the oil release system, and makes it dry, brittle and unhealthy. This is especially compounded when synthetic shampoos are used as the sulphates and surfactants in synthetic shampoos are EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE. Synthetic shampoos age and dry out hair very fast and damage hair's cuticular structure making it look dry, limp and it loses its natural shine and gloss.

Hair should be washed with a natural hairwash as soon as your scalp accumulated dirt. A dirty scalp breeds micro organisms and increases the chances of fungal contamination. However, most urban environments like offices and homes are extremely sanitised - so our hair does not get as dirty as we think it does. Learn to understand your hair and scalp and time your washes at the right frequency.

Hair should be copiously oiled before washing it with a hairwash. This ensures that even in the event of over enthusiastic washing, the hair retains some amount of natural oil and does not get completely dry. Copious oiling also helps the abhyanga process and allows the easy movement of the scalp during the massage. This hair oiling is best done along with a full body abhyanga (oil massage) to ensure that the body's complete organ systems get a full tune - up - this ensures your entire body is functioning well and optimally.  As with all routines start slow. Most of us are unused to oiling and may find that enthusiastically oiling ourselves with large amounts of oil gives us a headache. Start with tolerable amounts of oil and keep on increasing the amount of oil as your system gets used to the process. The same is the case with the oil soaking time. Start with a 10 minute soak and increase the soaking time by 10 minutes every 2 - 3 weeks until you can tolerate a 45 - 60 minute soak.

When applying copious amounts of oil, apply the oil as warm as you can tolerate it. The oil temperature should be such that you can easily dip your fingers into the oil without burning yourself and hold the oil in the palm of your hand. If you are prone to colds, or the season is rainy or cold, heat the oil directly with either of the following: 1 clove of garlic, 2 pepper corns, 1/2 teaspoon of ajwain. Remove these spices and apply the oil when bearably warm. These spices impart a "hot" quality to the oil reducing the chances of mucous accumulation or head colds.

Please follow the hair washing tips and techniques given in our hairwash product pages. As recommended, please follow up with a pinch of rasanadi churanam after hairwash to help your scalp warm. Avoid oiling or washing your hair if you have a cold.
